How to Play

Play Relic Splatter online for free. Relic Splatter is an 8-stage level escape game where you help archeologist and treasure hunter Rebecca Ciler explore an ancient dungeon. Collect all the gold relics to open the level exit & collect both red relics hidden in each level to complete the game to 100%. Use your guns to shoot enemies, break walls, and as a jetpack providing propulsion. All game files are stored locally in your web browser cache. This game works in Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox, Opera and other modern web browsers.

Starting the Game

Select the black and gray play button in the center of the game loading screen.
Choose the level you would like to play using the buttons at the bottom of the welcome screen.
- Initially only the first level is unlocked.
- Each time you beat a level you unlock the next. Locked levels are gray while unlocked levels are brown.
- Your web browser automatically saves your game progress including which levels you have beat and which red relics you have collected.
- The welcome screen shows how many of the red relics you collected from each level under the level select button.
- The game welcome screen has a reset game button in the upper left corner and a sound control button in the upper right corner.
- Game Controls
  - Desktop
    - Press the left arrow key or the A key to move left.
    - Press the right arrow key or the D key to move right.
    - Press the up arrow key or the W key to jump.
    - Use the space bar to switch between the red and green guns.
    - Use your mouse to aim your guns & the left click button to shoot them.
    - Press the E key to leave the level when in front of an unlocked door.
    - Touchscreen devices
      - This game was designed primarily for desktop play.
      - Controls & indicators
        
        The upper left corner of the game shows how many of your 3 heart containers remain.
        
        The upper right corner of the screen shows how many shots you have left with your red and green guns.
        
        The lower left corner of the game has a level select button.
        
        Game Play
        
        Collecting relics
        
        A white radar circle appears around you and around a relic when you appear near one.
        
        The upper left & right corner of the door are where you can place red relics. Each level has 2 red relics in it. You can beat levels without collecting the red relics, though must collect them to beat the game to 100% complete.
        
        Outside of the 2 corner spots for red relics, the remaining spots around the door indicate how many gold relics you need to collect to unlock the door. Once all other relics have been collected the door is open.
        
        Paintball guns & ammo
        
        The red paintball gun acts like a machine gun and the green paintball gun acts like a bazooka.
        
        The upper right corner shows how much ammo you have remaining for each gun. You can hold a maximum of 50 red ammo and 2 green ammo.
        
        If you run out of ammo you can restore it by standing in a pool of the same color as the gun.
        
        You can switch between guns using the spacebar.
        
        Enemies
        
        Angry stone blocks fall when you are underneath them or rather close to underneath them. The stone blocks which fall on you can not be killed. If they smash you that takes away a health point. You can however stand on them and use them to help you access higher platforms.
        
        Bats and other animals in the game can be destroyed by shooting them with the green gun.
        
        Dying
        
        You lose a hit point any time any of the enemies hit you or you run into spikes. If you lose 3 hit points it is game over.
        
        If you fall off platform it is game over.
        
        This game offers unlimited continues. When you continue you start at the beginning of the level you died on.
        
        Jumping & flying
        
        If you fire either gun while it is pointed downward the resulting force will give you lift.
        
        You can repeatedly fire the red gun to use it like a jet pack.
        
        Be sure to watch your total ammo count & have a full charge or nearly full charge before making major moves which will require a lot of ammo.
        
        One gotcha with flying is that if you collect a relic while you are in midair the screen can shift toward the door, which can adjust your mouse positioning. This makes collecting one of the red relics on level 7 quite frustrating. In that case you should use the red gun to shoot downward and work your way over to the relic, then adjust your mouse position to account for the screen movement toward the door.
        
        Finding hidden items
        
        You can spray the walls, ceiling, or even standing platforms with the red gun to see which ones weaken, indicating they can be destroyed with the green gun.
        
        Shoot the weakened blocks with the green gun to destroy them.
        
        The door on each level shows how many artifacts are hidden in the level. The upper corners of the door are where the 2 red relics go and the remaining markers indicate gold relics.
        
        Target Audience
        
        The game is suited for experienced gamers who enjoy platformers.
        
        The game has no adult themed content.
